What catherineaq has done in 2008

Recent stories by and about catherineaq

Last Saturday night, Terry and J and S and I all met in New Haven to see “A Woman of No Importance” (Oscar Wilde) at the Yale Rep. Before the play, we met for pizza and after it we got coffee and dessert, so we had time to talk, too.

Terry is just as delightful in person as she is online! It was wonderful to meet her, because I already like her so much, and the face to face meeting proved that she’s the kind of person I like to hang out with—the kind I meet far too rarely. Despite my own shyness, I felt we could have easily talked much longer.

And it’s so great to see her with J! They’re great as a couple, and he’s very cute and very funny.

Why I want to meet catherineaq

Because she is one of my ALL. TIME. FAVES.

My favorite memory of catherineaq

There are tons, but one of my favorite memories of catherineaq is how we traveled across the country together when we moved out to CA from NH. We sent our stuff ahead of us and took off in our little un-air-conditioned Toyota in the middle of summer. We spent at least a week… I think more… traveling. During the long boring stretches, we read Margaret Atwood books to each other. We stayed in cheap hotels and actually barely spent any time in the rooms. Most of our time was out exploring. Each day we’d get up and say, “OK where will we go today.” and then see all sorts of stuff. The National Parks out in the Southwest are stunning. Then the sun would set and we’d look at the map and say, “Uh Oh… 500 mile until we reach our next motel.” A wonderful experience, I would recommend to all.

It’s letting me! It’s letting me! I can post about little_terry!

little_terry is probably my best 43T friend and is the 43T-er I am most likely to meet. Every time I see she’s posted something, it makes me happy. She’s just the right degree of sentimental mom combined with insightful woman who sees the world with utter unsentimental clarity and reflects it back to us with tongue in cheek. She’s also phenomenally inspiring with her absolute dedication to staying fit and encouraging others who are trying to do so.

The pressure! For months I’ve wanted to post about little_terry and now I can’t think how to convey how wonderful she is.

I’m just happy to at last be able to declare my admiration for her!

A story about Scott

Oh, the stories I could tell about Scott!

Just wanted to mention that even though ScribblerMe probably was thinking about someone else, Scott can indeed cut a deck of cards with one hand. Meaning ”the deck stays in the one hand and bing bang boom he cuts it and hands it back to you whole (you know what I mean, all in place—there’s no actual card destruction). It’s a dexterity type thing, you know, like a professional gambler or a con man—not that he’s either one of those things”

It’s not a skill everyone has. I, for example, cannot do this.

Why I want to meet catherineaq

Because I think we’d have a great time sharing stories and making each other laugh. Because she has the grace to face serious issues without taking herself too seriously. Because having “met” her only recently, I already feel like we’ve lived parallel lives. Because she seems like a loving daughter, wife and mother. Because she inspires me to be the same.

Why I want to meet vavavoom

...because I have enough in common with her that I feel a bond with her, while at the same time she’s different enough from me that it draws me to her—the way you seek friends who have qualities you like and want to emulate. I enjoy every word of hers; the touching and the hilarious, the insightful and the whimsical. She’s one of those 43T-ers that I am grateful to have found!

I am awed by how Catherineaq lays out her heart on 43things. Whether she’s commenting on clover lawns, other people’s goals, or her family, her posts are intelligent, funny, and explode into my consciousness. To follow her posts is to see far further into her life than most people I know in the rw. I’m grateful for the window she shares with all of us. I know she makes my life richer and more thoughtful.

Why I admire catherineaq

Catherineaq’s posts and comments always brighten my day. She’s full of warmth and humor and all around goodness!

(Yay! I’m so glad you enabled 43P so that I could add you to my 43P list.)

A story about sitio

I love reading Sitio’s comments when he’s being funny. But when he’s being serious and insightful, his comments just blow me away. Either way, it’s always worth reading what he has to say!
